Purpose and ScopeEnsures the efficient operation of the school cafeteria; supervises staff; orders foods and supplies; oversees food planning, preparation and service; supervises point-of-sale terminal operation and financial reporting, and performs related work as required.
May provide food services for one or more satellite site/ sites and/or operates a cluster school/ schools or a high volume location.
Ensures compliance with all applicable District and Board policies and procedures and State, Federal regulations.
Essential Job Functions Supervises staff, establishing standards, and effectively selects, trains, assigns, and motivates, to ensure targets and goals are met.
Facilitates professional development and serves as coach and mentor.
Counsels and disciplines employees.
Manages daily food service activities and operations, including but not limited to the preparation and service of student and staff meals.
Submits reports and maintains records as required.
Instructs employees in regulations and procedures and conducts continuous on-the-job training for food service personnel.
Manages the preparation of food within an established production system following standardized recipes, preparation and service methods, food handling techniques, and equipment use and care guidelines.
Performs duties of subordinates as necessary during staff shortages or special events.
Attends training, meetings and workshops as required to enhance job knowledge and skills.
Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
Minimum QualificationsSupervisor School Nutrition
Qualifications:
Requires High School diploma or GED plus 3 years of experience in institutional food service and experience in food service supervision; and successful completion of the Supervisor School Nutrition Trainee program.
Must obtain ServSafe certification or Completion of the Tennessee Department of Education - Food Safety and Schools Certificate Program) within one year Associate's Degree preferred.

Summer Floater Supervisor School Nutrition
Qualifications:
Requires High School diploma or GED plus 3 years of experience in institutional food service and experience in food service supervision; and successful completion of the Supervisor School Nutrition Trainee program.
Must hold ServSafe certification or Completion of the Tennessee Department of Education - Food Safety and Schools Certificate Program) associate's Degree preferred.
Note:
This position requires movement to and from locations on a daily and/or weekly basis.

PLEASE NOTE:
INTERNAL CANIDATES ONLY Degree Equivalency Formula:
Bachelor's Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master's Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience.
Where Master's degrees are required, years for Bachelor's Degrees must be included.
Cluster School:
A school cafeteria that serves less than 250 meals and cannot financially support a supervisor.
School cafeteria located within a two (2) mile radius that can serve as the base school.
Satellite School:
A school where Shelby County Schools is the Food Source Authority such as charter schools, private schools, and parochial schools.
Supper Program:
A school that provides afterschool supper meals for Extended Learning Opportunities Program or At-Risk Supper to students after school.
Breakfast in the Classroom:
A school that provides breakfast meals to the entire student population or multiple grades at the school.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to work in areas which are often uncomfortable, wet and slippery;Ability to work in temperatures found in hot kitchens and the walk-in refrigerators and freezers;Ability to understand and adhere to safety procedures and take precautions required to avoid cuts, bruises, bums, scales and falls;Ability to understand and follow directions in English, both oral and written, to ensure safety of food preparation and service;Ability to keep accurate recordsPhysical Requirements and Working EnvironmentPhysical Demands:
Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment; must be able to use hands and fingers for sign language.
Unavoidable Hazards:
The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
